I, for one, am so very glad to say goodbye to the past year. What a shit sandwich it’s been!
Between the pandemic, the acrimonious political climate, the shuttering of small businesses all around our country and the deep losses felt in all of our lives, BYE 2020!!
I know we’re not out of the woods yet with the virus and while I know the vaccine is rolling out now, we still have a lot of uncertainty in our future and I want to honor that in you and in me: it’s okay and normal to feel anxious about what the future will bring.
But even in these tumultuous times, I still think it’s valuable and really helpful to remember what our dreams are, and what goals we are trying to achieve for 2021. To get back in touch with what you want to achieve personally and professionally.
To do this, I want us to shift our vision a bit to less of what is in front of us and more about what we’d like to have in our lives in this next year.
It could be you decide that you want to work less in the evenings & weekends and have more time with your partner.
Or you’d like to reconnect with your kiddo after this past 9 months of online learning that has made both of you stressed and a bit crazy!
It could be that you want to finish paying off your car or your credit card.
Maybe take a class.
Eating more veggies every day?
Read more? Sleep more? Save more?
There are so many goals we could list and they’re all exciting!
I’m encouraging you to not abandon a tried-and-true New Year’s practice that most of us have done our whole lives and that is setting our intentions and our plans for the new year. Now is the time to re-assess where we are, who we are and where we want to be.
Even if 2021 isn’t when we get back to normalcy (whatever that is), it can still be a year where you move your life into a better space.
Even tiny steps towards a better you is a WIN! Don’t get caught up in something not being good enough because it’s not perfect. So what if you only got half of your pictures into digital albums, it’s still a great achievement!
Here at EC, we love to celebrate every step you take with you (we are your biggest fans as you know!) so we are encouraging you to do the same with yo-self!
Make a plan, make a list, then break down each goal into smaller steps so that you can start moving in a positive direction.
{Secret: this is a great way to keep anxiety at bay: small actions towards a goal.}
If you need extra support and guidance with this, we got you! You can easily schedule an appointment with one of our kick ass therapists here.
In the meantime, Happy New Year! We’ll see ya in 2021!
