Are you ready to embrace winter?
Ugh. I don’t know about you, but I am not a fan of cold weather. I hate snow. I hate icy rain. I hate driving amongst all the other assholes who can’t drive in inclement weather. This is why I moved down South!!
Yet, I know there are some of you who love it! You ski, snow board, sit by fires with your hot cocoa, I get it. I see you too!
Regardless though, even I, a winter scrooge, can recognize that winter is a purposeful season: it is a time for rest and restoration.
Our trees and plants go dormant during this time. Our insects are all hiding. Even bears are hibernating (never understood this part, but okay).
Even humans are generally inside most of the time, cocooning, burrito-ing, whatever you want to call it and it can be NICE.
Even though I live in an area that has a longer warm season, it still gets a bit chilly here and my outside lounging is limited. All of our trees are dormant, my plants have receded, and the air has a distinctive nip in the morning.
While I am a summer girl, I have learned to appreciate the winter season because of 2 things:
- It gives me an opportunity to really nest and rejuvenate inside without feeling guilty.
- It gives me a strong restart for the next season where I will be much “busier.”
I’m encouraging you to rethink this season as well! Maybe realizing that winter, while cold and chilly, can also be a fun time to circle back to what your priorities are.
Too cold to go outside? Maybe play a board game with the kiddo that they’ve been bugging you to play.
Hate the cold rain? Stay inside with a book you’ve been dying to read.
Is it a yuck day outside? Maybe get to organizing that closet you’ve been avoiding or start separating he clothes you need to donate.
Or, here’s a good one…
Embrace winter: give yourself permission to just BE.
Embrace the excuse you have to just lounge around in your P.J.’s till noon (or all day, frankly), doing the stuff you have put off or haven’t had the time to do because there was all that beautiful weather to soak up.
Winter represents rest. So, rest my love. You too need a time to restore and recharge, just like all things in nature – use this season to do just that.
We all know now that humans are not designed to go go go. That we need to replenish too, and winter is the perfect season to do this.
I encourage you to re-frame this season and use it to your advantage. If you need extra support during this wintry time, we’ve got you! You can schedule here with any of our fab therapists.
Let us know in the comments too, what you do during the winter months to recharge and rest. We’re always looking for new ideas to try out. Happy cocooning!
