Yes ma’am, winter is around the corner and today I have some tips on how to stay cozy.
It’s common knowledge that most people in the south hate winter, and any accompanying adverse weather and cold air, but what’s not common knowledge is that MOST of the United States agrees with this!
Even those of you brave souls who CHOOSE to live in North Dakota or somewhere where winter is around for most of the year (yikes, no thanks) are reporting they too dread this season.
Just watch the news and notice how the weather people always discuss the weather with words such as “brace yourself” or “hunker down” and “be prepared” when it comes to showing us a forecast that is full of cold temps and/or inclement weather. Sigh… Subliminal hating on winter right there.
I’m offering a reframe here, especially if you’re Ms Cranky Pants in anticipation of the short days and colder temps.
Let’s get your cozy on!!!
Instead of looking at this season with dread and sadness, why not embrace it?
Yes, it gets dark by 5 pm {bleeckk}, and it’s cold and windy most days now. But what if you turned your frown upside down and retold your narrative about winter?
Why not focus on all the cozy parts of fall & winter that we typically gloss over?
Like hot chocolate, warm blankets, the yearning for soups & stews, plus homemade biscuits, fuzzy slippers, warm onesies, wearing leggings every day with no apologies, Ugg boots or any furry shoes.
You’ve got the perfect excuse to stay on the couch cuddled under your blankey, binging the newest Apple+ series or a movie you’ve been wanting to watch for a while now.
Or if you are in an area that does get snow, why not go for a walk with your puppers? I know our corgis love snow, but living in Georgia now, we don’t get that anymore.
Or go snowboarding, or try ice skating, or some other fun winter sport?
Try out some new adventures and get out a bit more than maybe you normally would.
Winter is a much-needed season for our planet even if we don’t like it much. It’s a time for dormancy and replenishment. Our trees and plants, grasses need this season to rest and recoup for a new growing season.
I’m going to offer here that WE DO TOO!
This season is a great time for us to also replenish, relax, recharge.
Have some projects you have been putting off? Winter is the perfect time to do them.
Need to reorganize your closet? Go through your books? Organize your pantry?
Winter is your time babe!!
Now if you are experiencing SAD which is Seasonal Affective Disorder, then you may need a bit more than just suggestions to cozy up. SAD is a form of depression that is directly correlated to the daylight savings change and the darker days and colder temps.
You can buy a light box or meet with your doctor to talk about other treatments for this such as increasing your vitamin D or going on a mood elevator temporarily.
And of course, make sure you have your therapy in place whether it’s just once a month or more frequently, to make sure you’re staying on top of any negative mood changes or an increase in negative thoughts and feelings.
Now is more important than ever to make sure you are fine tuning your mental and emotional health! As always, this is our jam and we’ve got you! You can schedule now on our website by clicking here. Happy cozy’ing!!
