What a weird thing to say, right?
Who in the WORLD would say that fear is your friend (unless they were delusional or out of touch)?? Isn’t fear something we’re supposed to avoid having or to ignore it at all costs?
I’m here to challenge that way of thinking for you … just stick with me while I explain my thoughts.
Fear is purposeful in some regards because it’s designed to protect us. What’s outdated is that our fear mechanism is triggered by anything that our brains think is a threat to our survival.
Sooo … this means that anything new we try? Trigger!
That class we enroll in after being out of school for 10 years? Trigger!
That first date with the person we met online last week? Trigger!
Our fear triggers are misguided as hell but that doesn’t stop them from coming whenever we do ANYTHING out of our comfort zone.
Most of us interpret this as a sign that we should stay there; that we shouldn’t venture outside the box we’ve made for ourselves.
But I’m challenging you to challenge your fear and look at it as a chance to push through it, a chance to grow your endurance muscles, a chance to expand your world into something different, something better.
Sounds easy but it’s gonna be hard, scary even (sorry, couldn’t resist) but on the other side of the fear wall is where…
ALL THE MAGIC HAPPENS!
Because fear is a just a flash in the pan: it will pass! Especially once we train our brains to ignore the fear emotion, to keep going in spite of it because that, my loves, is when your shit gets really fun!
The definition of courage isn’t the absence of fear but doing the thing you want to do, in spite of the fear!
Let fear give you a quick reminder to make sure you’re not about to do something that will kill you (playing dodge car, etc.) but then? Keep. Fucking. Going. Let fear be your daily co-pilot because honestly? If your dreams don’t scare the shit out of you, they’re not big enough! Fear just means you’re taking a step outside your comfort zone but if you don’t do that, you’ll never get the life you’ve been dreaming of.
