As I’m enjoying my 5th decade here on this planet, it occurred to me the other day that I am so not into doing certain things anymore (thank you aging gracefully). But honestly, I think it’s all stuff we should STOP doing right now for a happier and more peaceful self, no matter your age!
5 Things You Need to Stop Doing Immediately
1. Stop giving a shit about someone else’s opinion of you!
Like for real!!!
I know, easier said than done but really it just requires practice and some firm self-talk. I know you’ve heard that saying that someone else’s opinion of you is none of your business, but hey, it’s true. So whenever you find yourself getting upset over a co-workers supposed opinion of you just tell yourself, “It doesn’t matter if Tina doesn’t like me, I like me and I’m a great person!” Then just keep it moving because really, who actually cares??
Does Tina not liking you, stop you from paying your bills? Or change the way you work or love? Cause you to stop breathing?
Nope, it doesn’t affect you in any way that’s important and you can control what affects you emotionally so get to it!
2. Stop worrying about your size/weight. Right. Now.
Because really, who freaking cares what size we are and what we weigh? Does it have anything to do with who we are as humans? Does your weight define your value? I know society wants us to think we’re only worthy of anything if we are a size 2, but that’s such a crock of garbage. This sentiment was created over the past 300 years by men who wanted to keep women in their place, so stop buying into this damaging and untrue sentiment.
ENOUGH!
Rock your beautiful sexy self by finally seeing you for the queen you are!!
3. Stop doing shit you don’t want to do!
The best way to start creating a life you love is by saying no more regularly and often.
Seriously, don’t want to go to that neighborhood pool party? Then DON’T. Not feeling that high school gathering at the local pub? Nope, stay home boo.
You see where I’m going with this, but I encourage you to start saying yes only to things you love and actually want to do, and then see how you feel after a couple of months of this.
I promise you’re going to feel amazing. Now that’s a feeling I can get behind!
4. Stop doing things for people who don’t appreciate you!
Nothing sucks your energy faster than an emotional vampire–a person who just wants what they want from you with no regard for anyone else.
Nope, that’s a hard fucking no … say it with me: I will no longer be someone else’s doormat/punching bag. I am taking care of myself by only doing things with the people who love and respect me. The end.
5. Stop putting off all the things you have want to do/go/be.
Take it from me, life goes by fast. You don’t want to look back at your amazing life-adventure and have regrets.
Write that bucket list and start crossing shit off. Want to visit Martha’s Vineyard? Start saving for it and look at next year’s calendar, then pencil it in. Want to learn how to line dance? Google Search free lessons around you (ok here in the south, these are everywhere, haha). Want to take a month off to explore Europe/the West/wherever? Look at your schedule and see where you can fit this in, then make a plan for it.
Look obviously, some of these ideas are lofty but I have realized that if I pencil my ideas in, they happen more readily than if I just keep them in my mind. The first step to making something in your dreams real is writing them down. This gets them out of you head and into the world, one step at a time.
For example, one of my big dreams is to stay on Cape Cod for a month in the summer. So next summer I’ve already blocked off time to make that happen. How will it happen? I’m not sure yet but because I’ve got a tentative plan in place with the dates marked in my calendar, I have no doubt it will.
My point is this: don’t get stuck in the “how”; that’s not your job to figure out because the universe will help you get there. Just start laying the bricks for your plan and the rest will follow. I promise you!
