We recently decided to poll our amazing team of rock star therapists and our administrative team for their own personal mantras or favorite positive affirmations that they go to when shit gets real or they need an extra push to get through some hard times. Here’s what they offered up…
Kelly Muldoon:
When I’m struggling (which has been on and off with the bulged disks in my back), I often tell myself, “this is hard right now, but this isn’t forever”. Knowing that the hard moment will end helps me know that an easier future is in sight!
Emily Lamoreau:
“You’re human.” 🙂 This serves as a reminder that things aren’t always going to be awesome and I’m going to make mistakes and that’s OKAY.
Sarah Walker-Leard:
I often remind myself to “find your breath.” It is something one of my favorite yoga teachers repeats during class. Reminding myself to find my breath when I am having a hard time helps me to come back to a place of mindfulness.
Rochelle Brown:
Whenever I am struggling or life feels hard, I remember to tell myself “The only thing you absolutely have to do right now is make it through the next moment” Carry on!
Dawn Morrissey:
“This too shall pass” I have many based in my Faith. My favorite: “Be still and Know” reminds me I don’t have to be in control of all things. I find that very comforting. As I often forget to let go and let God 🙂
Cynthia Ntagbu:
When I am having a “not so okay day”, I like to remind myself that it is okay not to be okay. I tell myself that I can handle anything that comes my way.
Norissa Gupta:
So I have never been an alcoholic, but I love the serenity prayer, so the quote that I love is:
“One of the happiest moments in life is when you find the courage to let go of what you can’t change.”
Mindy Hill:
I’ve been using my affirmations a lot lately! Here are a few I use: “It’s a bad day, not a bad life.” “Tomorrow is a fresh start. Tomorrow will be better.”
Donna Malphrus:
I say to myself “just ride this wave and it will pass.” The wave will always flatten out, and the calm will come again. Each time you learn how to ride a wave, you are even more prepared for the next one.
Adrianne Schnos:
“I am learning and growing, small improvements lead to big results!” This reminds me small steps lead to big results! and to just keep going!
Jennifer Guy:
I just always remind myself to to be grateful for the moment and what can I learn from this moment, even if it’s not a moment that I necessarily have chosen.
Amanda Shores:
When I am having a tough day, I usually tell myself to “take it all in and that it is okay to experience and validate what I feel, but then find a way to channel my emotions to push forward.” I remind myself that it’s powerful to reveal the different layers of myself in order to find strength and remind myself of my resilience. I root for myself with positive but real talk!
Jeanette Wood:
I like to remind myself that I’ve made it through all of the bad days so far and I survived! Keep going, keep trying, keep learning.
Tamesha Veasley:
One that I used to recite all the time a while ago was “the past has no say in my present or future “. I found this to be helpful in not allowing myself to dwell on things that happened in the past that cannot be changed but instead focus on the present and what I want my future to look like.
Francesca Orfila:
This is my most used mantra with myself and my loved ones: “Strength doesn’t come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t.”– Rikkie Rogers
Deborah Duley:
I’m a huge affirmations girl so mine will rotate regularly but the one I use the most is “I was made to do this so deep breath babe and get to it” {yes, I talk to myself like that haha}
